Abstract

This study evaluates a livestock wastewater treatment system at the Choquenaira Experimental Stationin the Central Altiplano of Bolivia,to determine its feasibility for agricultural irrigation reuse. A quantitative and descriptive methodology was employed, analyzing physical, chemical, and bacteriological parameters at two key points of the system: the pretreatment tank and the sedimented water tank. The results indicate significant reductions in turbidity (68.31%), suspended solids (68.11%), chemical oxygen demand (71%), and biochemical oxygen demand (84%). Additionally, ammoniacal nitrogen decreased by 86.11%, and thermotolerant coliforms were reduced by 1.11 log. These values demonstrate the system’s effectiveness in contaminant removal. The findings suggest that the implemented system improves water quality, allowing for its reuse in irrigation under certain conditions.
